Specialty IC foundry Huahong Semiconductor has seen monthly capacity at its 12-inch wafer fab in Wuxi more than double in less than six months to 48,000 wafers, according to company sources.

Huahong's 12-inch plant in Wuxi accounted for 24% of Huahong's overall revenue in the second quarter of 2021, up 20pp on year, the sources indicated.

Huahong is mulling another capacity expansion at its 12-inch fab in Wuxi, with monthly production set to grow further to 650,000 wafers by the end of this year, the sources said.

Huahong also has three 8-inch fabs in Shanghai, with production capacity reaching a combined 180,000 wafers monthly. Huahong's 8-inch fabs generated a record-high US$262 million in second-quarter revenue, accounting for 76% of company revenue during the quarter.

Huahong has reported revenue climbed 54% on year to a record high of US$346 million in the second quarter of 2021. The foundry expects to post revenue of about US$410 million in the third quarter, with a gross margin ranging from 25% to 27%.

Huahong generated revenue of US$651 million in the first half of 2021, up 52% from a year earlier. The foundry credited the sales growth to mainly a ramp-up in its 12-inch fab output.

Huahong expects its wafer ASPs to register sequential increases of 3-5% in the third and fourth quarters of 2021.
