WPG, Asia's largest IC distributor, has expressed optimism about semiconductor demand for 5G, IoT, automotive and industrial applications this year despite a number of negative macro factors facing the industry.

WPG already has diversifed its offerings. Sales generated from the "non-3C" segments including IoT, automotive and industrial electronics grew as a proportion of company revenues to 25% in 2018, the IC distributor disclosed.

Meanwhile, WPG has expanded its global presence by setting up sales operations in Northeast Asia, ASEAN, India and North America, according to the company, which generates large portions of its revenues from the Greater China region.

For instance, WPG continued, sales generated from the North America region exceeded NT$20 billion (US$645.8 million) in 2018.

WPG reported net profits of NT$4.22 per share on revenues of NT$545.13 billion for 2018, with both results hitting record-high levels. The company's shareholders have approved the distribution of a cash dividend of NT$2.70 per share for the year.
